Sales funnels are the topic of the lead article on video marketing from this week’s the Video Marketing Weekly from Penrose Productions.

Sales funnels and the videos that should used at each place in the those sales funnels are the focus sales funnelof the lead article in this week’s Video Marketing Weekly. Sales funnels are crucial to online marketing, and companies need to be aware of how to best move their customers deeper into the funnel.

For a definition of sales funnels, please see an earlier blog post on our blog.

The lead article is titled “5 Types of Video Content Perfect for Each Stage of the Customer Journey.”

In the article, the author suggests that educational videos should be used and the top of the funnel, and explainer videos can best be used in the middle of the funnel. In addition, testimonial and demos should be used at the bottom of the funnel.

While in general we have no big argument with the suggested types of videos placed in the sales funnel, we would argue that the type of video used is more dependent on the type of audience.

For example, we do lots of work in the BtoB space and when a potential buyer enters that sales funnel in a field such as high tech, it is typically with a high degree of knowledge and understanding. As such, the buyer does not need the extensive education suggested by explainer videos in the article.

We would be delighted to help you pick the right approach to videos for your sales funnel – based in large part on the sophistication of your buyers.

Over our 3+ decades in video production, we have tons of experience helping businesses craft just the right approach and appeal to their audience. Our expertise in both video and business has earned us the knowledge and ability to get businesses pointed in the right direction for their video efforts for their sales funnels.

Impact of Online Video

Online video has a terrific impact.

The internet has created great waves of changes that rippled through every aspect of human life. In the business sector alone, technology played a great role in the shift of marketing strategies used to promote a product or a service. The internet in general and online videos in particular have replaced the traditional advertising uses of TV, radio and print. With millions of people using the internet at any given time, it is definitely the biggest market any business can take advantage of. A lot of promotional strategies are being made online to get exposure for all types of companies.

Online video marketing is becoming one of the best ways to promote a business.

online videoRecent research shows that online videos are getting more and more popular. YouTube, Vimeo, and Dailymotion are but a few of the various video hosting sites available on the web where companies can upload their videos and have potential customers watch them with a single click.

Statistics show that these online videos can be very powerful sales tools.

  1. Video in an email leads to a 200 – 300% increase in click-through rates.
  2. After watching a video, 64% of users are more likely to buy a product online.
  3. 50% of executives look for more information after seeing a product/service in an online video.
  4. 86% of colleges and universities have a presence on You Tube.
  5. 65% of marketers plan to increase their mobile ad budgets to account for video.
  6. 87% of online marketers use video content.
  7. 96% of B2B organizations use video in some capacity in their marketing campaigns of which 75% report positive results to their ROI.
  8. 75% of online video viewers have interacted with an online video ad this month.

Importance of Online Video Marketing

The increasing trend for online video marketing is due to the numerous benefits of using videos for marketing purposes. Here are the top 5 benefits of Online Video Marketing.

1.  People enjoy online videos

A great many people favor watching recordings over reading text. In this fast paced world it is typically much easier to have a video load up rather than having to skim through a written article to gather information. With user controls on the videos enabled, users can even skim through online videos to get the information they need. And with the better interaction of videos, users typically remain on a site two minutes longer than sites without online videos.

2. Accessible On Demand

One motivation behind why there is more online video watchers compared with TV commercials is that the previous online recordings are constantly accessible on request. In the event that a viewer likes the video, he or she can share and download them. TV ads are only accessible during the program on which they air is live (or recorded). It is much simpler to click a link or image to access the online video.

3. Reasonable

Present day innovation has made online marketing videos less expensive and simpler to create. Cheaper cameras and easy to use editing programs make the video production process much less expensive than in pre-HD days.

4. Expanding Traffic and Conversion

Because of its appeal, online videos can go viral and get exposure much more quickly than text based information about your business.

5. High Rankings in Search Engine Results

Since Google and other search engines now incorporate online videos in their search algorithms, ranking in the search engines can be done more easily with video – if done properly. We addressed this topic in our blog years ago.

To break out of the pack, online videos need to address audience needs.

Creating a fancy, hilarious online video that goes viral is a great goal, but just because videos gets lots of views, it does not mean that the companies that created them are turning those views into profits. The key is to be sure to target the right viewers. If you identify your correct target audience, you can uniquely get your sales message across to those clients who will actually send you money for your product of service.

And isn’t that what all our marketing efforts should be about?

Old Marketing Methods: Don’t Waste Your Time

Old Marketing Methods have given way to new search and buying trends

In the past, businesses used old marketing methods because they were the best way to advertise – in the Yellow Pages, newspapers, or other traditional advertising sources. Nothing could offer the kind of convenience and reach to potential customers compared to a highly visible and well-placed Yellow Pages listing, or newspaper ad. However, everything has changed drastically.

The fact is, the world is rapidly transforming from analog to digital. People now consume more digital contents on a daily basis, on their smartphones, tablets, and desktop PCs at work, just to mention a few. Online marketing/digital marketing is the real deal in this century. Having an online presence is now essential for each and every business or brand.

Are traditional means of advertising dead?

As a matter of fact, the advertising model embracing the media of old marketing methods (newspapers, Yellow Pages, and other traditional forms of advertising) basically doesn’t appeal to today’s consumer.

old marketing methodsNowadays, the first point of call for a customer before doing anything is to search online.

Before making any purchase, buyers try as much as possible to gather more information about the product or service online, from the comfort of their home, or at work. Not only do customers find online search convenient, but they are also able to gather more information compared to the streamlined information provided by newspapers, and the Yellow Pages.

What causes this?

A recent study revealed that commercial purchases now utilize online channels both for making research and purchasing. Online channels have now surpassed more traditional buying channels. Some of the reasons for this include:

  • Easy experience

Buyers want a simple, easy, and convenient shopping experience. The only way this can be achieved is through online channels. With a quick online search, buyers are able to either get or learn what they want as quickly as possible rather than having to spend a lot of time searching through the Yellow Pages or newspapers.

  • Full product descriptions

The search for a full product description has influenced more buyers to use online searches. Online videos are often viewed to get specific features and benefits. Buyers now also seek full product descriptions, specification sheets, and instruction manuals. They also want related questions about the product, reviews, and other helpful information. All these are some of the advantages offered by online searches that remain unmatched through traditional means.

  • Mobile Friendly Websites

What purchasers want is a straightforward and intuitive experience they can easily navigate through while shopping, and not some bulky paper listings. This has brought about the development of mobile-first e-commerce providing shoppers with an easy-to-navigate shopping platform, whereby they can do research and place an order anytime they find convenient be it at nights, during the holidays, on weekends, and so forth.

  • In-stock Inventory

Furthermore, buyers want product listings to be up to date, and also have an idea about when the product is available for pickup. Online listings are usually up to date as compared to newspaper, or Yellow Page listings.

What is the way forward?

As of 2013, about 81% of buyers conducted online research before making purchases. 60% start by making use of a search engine to find the products they will like to purchase, and 61% will read product reviews before making any purchase. Certainly, over three years later, these would have only increased. On average, consumers usually go as far as visiting up to three online stores prior to making their purchase.

Good marketing makes the company look smart. Great marketing makes the customer feel smart.” – Joe Chernov.

It is time various business organizations and brands abandon old marketing methods and begin to incorporate digital marketing more. Companies of varying sizes should not waste their money on Yellow Page advertising. Business organizations can meet the information and shopping needs of their various customers, and in the process, benefit from increased deals and sales.

The outline for achieving your business objectives lies in your online marketing strategies. You have to be flexible and versatile enough to make proper adjustments and adequate changes necessitated by the environment to effectively attain your goals. Business owners need to focus more on their online marketing and digital marketing strategies. In other to achieve this, your business or brand will need an online presence, a website friendly to search engines, an active social media campaign, and lots more.

We can help.

Video Marketing Weekly from Penrose Productions 1/24/17

Here’s this week’s edition of Video Marketing Weekly.

We’ve assembled many articles from around the internet from the past week. Folks are cranking up the dialogue for an exciting year of video marketing. 2017 will be showing lots of new innovations in the field.

artificial intelligenceOn that topic, the lead article for this week’s compilation of articles from around the web is one from MarTech Advisor titled “How Marketers Can Use Experiential AI to Jump Start Video Marketing.” The article begins at a very high level and identifies for example, Saas from Magisto,is a good one and comments that the new platform “uses artificial intelligence to help drive the transition from traditional marketing creative to digital-first, mobile video marketing for businesses of all sizes.”

This certainly only scratches the surface of using AI for video marketing.

New Approach to Review Videos for Rankings

Review videos can be short and sweet and still get on the first page of Google organic listings.

We’re trying a new approach to review videos for our local clients and it seems to be working well. The key is to get our review videos onto the first page of the Google organic listings.

Anyone interested in internet marketing should know that you MUST be on the first page of Google if you want to get found by people searching. 92% of people never move to page 2 and beyond.

We’ve written earlier about the positive impact that a company’s review videos can have on their marketing experts. And review videos fill a valuable niche when people search for a company and reviews about those companies. Or they may even search for a particular company name, plus the word “review.”

Our new approach is to do videos that each feature one review from a client’s Yelp page, Google page, web page, etc. and wrap an intro and close.

These review videos, while short, sweet and to the point, can be optimized correctly and by using our “review video magic” the video can show up on page 1 of the organic listings, not just the video search listings. Here is an example of the latest video that we did that got us ranked on page 1 overnight:

We just put this up for ourselves a day ago and it’s on page 1 of Google’s organic search already for “Silicon Valley video production company review.”

video reviews

Similarly, if one were interested in our company specifically and searches for Penrose Productions + “review” we also show up on the first page of the Google organic listings.

We will continue to test other videos with other terms and report back.

But we’re very optimistic that this will be a windfall for our clients once we post these video reviews.

If you would like a chance to see what these review videos can do to get your business found on the internet and drive people through the door, please give us a call at 650-969-8273

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Online Videos are Key to Reaching Younger Clients

Online videos are a favorite medium for younger consumers.

Younger consumers are much more likely to watch online videos since they can access whatever content they want when they want it.

Gone are the days when children would get up to watch their favorite morning TV show on a kid’s network before school or on weekends. No, kids aren’t into that anymore. Instead they get comfortable, pull out their smart phone or tablet, and watch online videos on YouTube or other online platform. Children and youth have moved away from TV culture. And as writer Jennifer Van Grove puts it in her article in the San Diego Union Tribune, they have cut the cord.

Youngsters are increasingly better with new technology at younger ages, with many using cordless devices proficiently as toddlers.

Pre-teens and teens now are commonly owners of their own smart phones, meaning that they have full access to media and social media networks any place and any time. If they don’t have phones it is likely that they have access to tablets or even laptops- and on any of these devices YouTube and Netflix are at their fingertips.

signs

Kid’s tend to have a preference towards YouTube, and are able to easily find the content they want. It’s basically their go-to entertainment resource. YouTube does have its benefits, with a number of tutorials and educational clips, and it also has a number of videos that could be deemed inappropriate for children, calling for parental guidance. But YouTube should be given credit for its web videos that are successfully targeted to the younger set.

YouTube has a number of video channels that are formed to deliver web videos to younger viewers, with many having tens of thousands of subscribers and millions of views.

Similarly, Netflix has family friendly options, the ‘kid safe’ areas, making it a bit of a safer place for children to browse. However, they still seem to be drawn more to YouTube, where they can pick and choose devices at their own preference and search for new interesting web videos that are either related to their preference or on topics and YouTube stars that are trending.

Google and YouTube are gigantic data mining organizations, and this includes gathering information across the internet, including web videos. This can actually help companies to advertise with web videos, not just to younger consumers but to those of all ages who watch web videos. And the numbers of people who do so is huge and growing every day.

Businesses that want to reach young consumers or consumers of all ages, should seriously consider exploring the potential of advertising on web videos.

There are a number of very inexpensive options that come with YouTube advertising, and we can help reach those for you. We’re sure that you’ll find the ROI strong and increasingly worth your while. Web videos have huge potential to effectively reach your target audience, regardless of their age group.

Short Form Videos: 3 Reasons Why You Need Them in Your Marketing Efforts

Short form videos can help conquer a compelling marketing problem in this day and age.

You have undoubtedly heard that a picture is worth a thousand words, which is correct, and then some. After all, the human brain is wired to process visual information far faster than text; 60,000 times faster actually! This is amply demonstrated in our collective preference for all things visual. We love watching movies, enjoy art, and seeing an event first hand is always more interesting than reading about it in the paper. So if you are reading around a thousand words for every picture you see, try imagining what your brain must be interpreting at 30 frames per second!

short form videoThis is probably why videos are becoming ever more popular a medium for consuming information. In fact 2015 has been called the year of video marketing as more and more brands are making video an integral part of their marketing strategy. Study after study is proving just how important video is. For instance, video is expected to account for 79% of all internet traffic by 2019 according to Cisco. As many as 52% marketers are also already admitting that video content offers better ROI than all other methods. Similarly, both B2B and B2C marketers proclaim that video marketing performed the best on social media.

Among the different types of videos that are available, short form videos have become increasingly popular in the past few years.

And short form videos are…?

Any video which is less than 10 minutes in length is a short form video, although its exact definition and length are a much debated topic. The hugely popular site Instagram recently added videos to their platform which allow users to upload videos which are 3 to 15 seconds in length. So popular were these formats that 1 million new Instavids were uploaded to Instagram within 24 hours of launching their video service! Likewise, the 6 second long Vines have also been well received by the online community. These trends highlight the change in the digital landscape; Youtube is no longer the go to de-facto destination for watching videos, as these platforms are also getting attention.

So, if you still aren’t sold on the importance of short form videos, here are 3 reasons which will convince you otherwise:

#1: Short form videos are all the rage on social media…

…as evidenced by the fact that Facebook owns Instagram, and Vine belongs to Twitter. Truth be told, you can produce some very creative videos which are 15 or even just 6 seconds long. Short form videos also break the viewers out of the monotony of long pieces, and provide them something short, sudden and interesting for a change. Shorter videos are easier to watch on slow connections and are quickly shared as well, making them perfect for social media.

#2: More people are on smart phones now:

According to metrics firm Ooyala, 44% of all video viewings happened on a mobile device in the second quarter of 2015, this is a 74% increase over last year. The study also found that short form videos were being viewed 67% more on mobile devices than tablets, TVs or desktops. Short form videos ability to present information quickly allows people to watch them on the go, making them ideal for mobile devices.

#3: Short form videos present many creative avenues:

Showcase a new product, tell your viewers about a new event, or give them a quick behind the scenes tour, short form videos are perfect for a plethora of different marketing tactics!

Let’s face it, attention spans are getting shorter each year.

As visual content is typically heavy on the bytes, it was hindered by the lack of availability of high bandwidth; which thankfully is no longer a problem. While short form videos are doing great, it is worth noting that the real trick lies in understanding the audience and providing them with an entertaining solution, while respecting their time.

New Free Stock Footage Source

Free stock footage site just opened for personal and commercial video productions.

As we’ve mentioned in the past, business videos get a real deal if they can use free stock footage rather than pay for a crew to shoot it new. Many times you can practically get away without shooting a specific scene to underscore your point. This cutaway (or B-roll) footage can just convey the “feeling” for what is being said rather than specifically illustrating your point.

Here is an example of one of our videos that includes stock footage:

Rather than shoot any of this footage, the video is created entirely from live action and animated stock footage.

New we see that there is a new company that is giving away stock footage for free. We’ve yet to see what the catch is, so we suggest you take advantage of the source while it is still free. The license information indicates that you can download the footage for free and use it personally or commercially.

pexels videos.jpg

Because the video portion of the site is new, there is not an excess of free stock footage, at least as pertains to video.

However, the site has had free photos available for awhile, and there are lots of free stock photos there.

So use Pexels for stock footage if you find something to your liking — you can’t beat the price. It is free stock footage, after all.
